Purpose: KAUST Discovery Scholarships will be granted to a select cohort of undergraduate students who demonstrate academic excellence in the global research community. The KAUST Discovery Scholarships will support students who wish to pursue research-based graduate study at KAUST at the conclusion of their undergraduate programs.

· Chemical Engineering
· Civil and Environmental Engineering
· Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences
· Mechanical Engineering
· Materials Science and Engineering
Disciplines to be added in the future:
· Electrical Engineering
· Applied Bioscience
Scholarship Benefits:
· For the remainder of the recipient’s undergraduate degree:
o Full tuition at the current undergraduate institution
o A monthly living stipend, book and laptop computer allowances
· Participation in KAUST-sponsored enrichment activities such as:
o Scholarship award convocation event
o Global workshops at the KAUST campus in Saudi Arabia
o Regional workshops
· Acceptance into a master’s degree program at KAUST and a full scholarship
Eligibility: Applicants must demonstrate proven leadership in research and academic involvement. A minimum of the following academic standards:
· Official university record documenting academic achievement at the highest level
· Current enrollment in an undergraduate program in a KAUST-related field of study
· 550 TOEFL PBT or 213 TOEFL CBT, 79-80 iBT or 6. 0 on the IELTS for non-native speakers of English
· Proven research interest and/or leadership potential
· Ability to enter a master’s program at KAUST in Saudi Arabia in Fall, 2009, or after
Application Process: Applicants will complete an on-line application form. The application will require the following:
· Personal data
· 3 letters of reference addressing the academic, leadership and research capabilities of the applicant
· Statement of purpose
· Personal statement
· Official academic transcript(s)
· TEOFL or IELTS Score
· Complete online application at www.kaust.edu.sa
Requirements:
· Maintain highest academic standings and results in current institution through graduation
· Agreement to matriculate at KAUST following graduation from undergraduate institution
· Participation in KAUST-sponsored enrichment activities that include an award ceremony, workshop in home region and conference in Saudi Arabia
· Obtaining necessary documents for travel outside of the scholar’s home country
(KAUST will assist with travel documents for entrance into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia)

· May 11, 2008 - Deadline for student submission of application and recommendations
· May 11, 2008 – Transcripts postmarked by this time
