Fulbright-García Robles Scholarships

Qualifications:

· A visionary leader with marketing and public relations savvy who will help to reposition COMEXUS as the leading institution in the bilateral relationship in higher education.

· Demonstrated ability and experience in financial planning, budget, administration, program development, and fundraising.

· A minimum of 10 years of experience in an executive position that included supervisory /management/ team development with a staff of at least six.

· Outstanding oral, written and inter-personal communications skills in both English and Spanish, including the ability to interact effectively with both American and Mexican academics, government officials, business and NGO leaders, and grantees.

· Understanding of American and Mexican society and culture as demonstrated by experience living, studying, and/or working in both countries

· Advanced degree is highly desirable.

· Knowledge of and/or direct experience with the Fulbright program, American and Mexican universities´ procedures, and/or experience in the field of higher education and academic exchange, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Overall administration of the U.S. Mexico – Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange

· Supervision of 4-5 Commission staff and preparation of annual program and budget plans and reports

· Develop a scope of COMEXUS programs for the following U.S. Fiscal Year (October 1st through September 30th).

· Implement the policies recommended by the Board.

· Coordinate Board meetings twice a year alternately in the U.S. and Mexico.

· Create and implement a fundraising program with targeted objectives both financially and for increasing awareness within the business community

· Increase the competitiveness and brand image of COMEXUS.

The Executive Director reports to a bi-national Board of Directors co-chaired by American and Mexican officials (U.S. Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education) and composed of eight board members (four from each country) who are distinguished representatives of academia, NGO´s and the private sector.

The Executive Director oversees the implementation of a medium and long term strategy for expanding COMEXUS programs. This is described in the document “A Vision for the Next Twenty Years of COMEXUS: Enhancing U.S. – Mexico Educational Cooperation” that can be consulted at http://www.comexus.org.mx/.

Travel within Mexico and occasional international travel is required. A one-year renewable contract will be offered to the successful candidate. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The Position will be available starting November 2011.
